The Buchanan County 200

The Buchanan County 200 is a dualsport/adventure bike route in Buchanan County Virginia.

We've been wanting to do this for some time. We've ridden several other trails/routes and read of of other folks adventures on lots of other trails and we've always thought Buchanan County would be the excellent place for such a route.

First off, let's explain our trail rating system:
Being older, not in great health, and not of great skill, and knowing there are others in the same boat as I am, and the fact that what may be considered an easy trail on a lightweight DOT knobbied and plated enduro motorcycle may be considered extremely difficult for someone like me were I on a huge adventure bike with 50/50 tires.
So with that said, you may likely find our rating leans to the easy side if you're an experienced skillful rider in great health.

GREEN route: The green route is what we consider our main route. It's close to 200 miles and meanders across the Buchanan County Border into Tazewell, Russell and Dickenson Counties in Virginia, and crosses the border into Kentucky and West Virginia as well.
Most of the main route is asphalt and can probably be traveled in a car. It is truly an easy route and anyone who has met the requirements of getting a motorcycle license should be able to easily travel it.
The main route is in separate sections so you can concentrate on the sections one at a time or load them all.

YELLOW route: The yellow routes are also easy routes. We only changed the color to yellow to keep them separate from the main route.

BLUE route: The blue routes are considered intermediate difficulty. Some of them may only have one difficult section on the whole route, but due to that one section we can't call the whole route easy. We will try to provide as much detail as possible about where the difficult spots are along the route.

BLACK route: Black routes will be anything from single track to mountain trails with steep hills, lots of mud, etc. You should only try the black trails if you're confident in your abilities and your bike is properly set up, and we definitely don't recommend you try them alone. Some of these places see little to no traffic so you might be a while getting help if you get stuck or hurt.

GPX Files for the main route:

GPX files for the Blue routes:
This is the Beech Creek Rd. and Alum Creek Rd. trail in Mingo County West Virginia. Around 8.5 miles long. The Beech Creek side of this trail is steep and rutted and I had trouble on it partly due to getting behind some slow SideXSides. Other than that section the rest of the trail was fairly easy. Look for the wild horses on the mountain there.

Panther Ridge Rd. This is rated at BLUE but it's not a terribly bad trail. The section near the top of the mountain is dirt, no gravel, and could be slippery with dual sport tires. It goes through Panther Park in West Virginia up to the top of Bradshaw Mountain where it joins the main trail on the Virginia/West Virginia border.

Panther Creek. Jeep Trail. May be nearly a BLACK trail. Use caution.
